Welcome Rain! Some areas already well over 1.0″

A widespread rain began overnight for many areas of the state with snow piling up over the high mountain peaks above tree line.  Rainfall amounts have exceeded 1.0″ in Fort Collins, Boulder, Denver and surrounding areas.  Some isolated areas have seen up to 1.50″ or more!  Rainfall amounts through the morning hours remained on the light side from Colorado Springs southward but your time is coming as rain will be increasing through the day today extending into the evening hours.  Normal rainfall for the Denver area for the entire month of September is just under 1.0″.  This is much needed rain as we have not even recorded half of the normal precipitation this year as of yesterday and severe drought covers the state.  Hopefully this storm is a sign of things to come this fall and winter.  Some rainfall amounts as of 10am are listed below:

Chatfield State Park – 1.73″

Lakewood 1.34″

Castle Pines 1.02″

Thornton – 1.18″

South of Boulder 1.06″

Evergreen – 0.83″

Fort Collins NW – 1.25″

Loveland – 0.45″

Aurora – 0.87″
